A mining company explores a Montana site with seismographs, hoping to find metals worth extracting. Instead it finds what look to be anomalous Native artifacts at depths that make the readings suspicious. Summer, 1999. University researchers scan the site and find “erratics,” objects that should not be where they are found. They dig up bolts, pieces of machinery, aviator sunglasses, a Rolex wristwatch, a skeleton with a steel surgical pin in its leg and fillings in its teeth…all buried for five million years.
